Holiday Travels – Your Guide to Success

It’s that time of year again – the holidays are upon us. Which, for the roadways, means heavier traffic and increased chances of something going awry.

If you live in the Bay area, you’re probably aware that there are many alternative methods of transportation other than driving. BART and SF Muni have many convenient locations to catch a ride around the city. Car services like Uber provide great means of transportation that may even be easier on the pocket book than the alternative standard taxi services. It’s also a great way to get to SFO if you’re catching a flight out of town.

Keep in mind that as we get closer to Christmas and the New Year’s holiday, fare surges will make these rides more expensive than usual. Either way, a couple hundred bucks for a ride is far less expensive than the alternative if you plan on having a few cocktails.

However if you plan to take to the roads this holiday season, Peninsula Auto Body has a few tips to help ensure you have pleasant and safe travels.

Vehicle Condition:
Be sure to check your headlights, blinkers, oil, tire pressure and condition, belts and hoses, brake and antifreeze fluids and your battery. By completing this simple check list, you decrease your odds of running into mechanical trouble on your journey.

Be Prepared:
Not only should you plan your route in advance and check the traffic and weather conditions before you leave, be sure to pack an emergency roadside assistance kit. Blankets, gloves, flashlight, water, non-perishable foods and things of the like are good to have on board. You should also keep the gas tank at least half-filled when traveling to cooler destinations. This will assist in preventing the fuel line to freeze.

Relax and Enjoy the Ride:
Be sure to get plenty of rest before you travel to prevent drowsy driving. The holidays can be stressful and lack of proper sleep can add to frustration levels and create a poor decision making environment. With the right attitude and refreshed mind, almost anything is more pleasurable.

If you plan on traveling this holiday season, we hope that you reach your destination safely and securely wherever you’re going. Happy holidays to you all from the Peninsula Auto Body team!
